Strategically Invest in Furniture to Elevate Your Home Without Overspending

Buying a new home or even downsizing can feel overwhelming, especially when it comes to furnishings. With so many online furniture retailers to choose from, our clients tend to seek out those first to fill their space. But doing so can result in oversized, poorly made pieces that, in a few years, you have no choice but to throw away. As we expand our knowledge on sustainable design, that also holds true for purchasing well-made furniture that will have longevity.

Tip #1: Prioritize Daily-Use or Design-Critical Items

We understand that having unlimited funds is very rare, but an interior designer can educate the end user about what is worth investing in, helping them make informed decisions. For instance, a sofa or sectional can be a large investment when purchasing quality, well-made pieces, so we encourage our clients to think neutral for the fabrics. You can easily update the look with accent pillows as color trends change.

Tip #2: Invest Strategically in Light Traffic Pieces and Spaces

As we begin to understand our clients and how they live, we will often know where to invest in quality pieces and where we might fill in those decorative items that may not receive daily use. For instance, I love light fixtures. I feel it's the jewelry to a well put together outfit, but a light fixture does not need to break the bank. It merely needs to look beautiful.

Tip #3: Pre Plan Purchases Alongside a Home Professional

Planning and envisioning the complete picture is crucial, and we take pride in assisting our clients with it. Often, clients focus on individual areas one at a time. However, when it comes time to furnish the rooms, they realize their funds have run dry. The convenience of inexpensive online shopping can lead to filling a room without thoughtful consideration, which is definitely not using your investment wisely.

For some reason, there is a pre-conceived perception that an interior designer would be too costly to hire when remodeling or building a home, an additional expense you think you can not afford, but it's the complete opposite. Having an interior designer involved throughout the entire process, from start to finish, can actually save you money in the long run. We have the knowledge and experience in the industry to know where you should invest more and where you can hold back.

Do you have questions about developing a thoughtful budget for your design project? Give us a call—we'd love to help you out!

Warmly,

Trisha
