3 Principles of Our Environmentally Friendly Interior Design Process

The focus on our health over the past few years has made a large social impact on living longer, but why not? That also became the focus of our living environment. We spend 90% of our lives at home, so why not also make that a healthy environment?

This is why we recently became a founding member of the ID green List. An Interior design platform that will provide continuing education and resources on sustainable products.

Here are a few of the ways we are committed to a sustainable, environmentally friendly design process…

Sourcing Sustainable Products

We are committed to educating ourselves everyday on this ever-evolving world of sustainable products. When sourcing materials for your home, we focus on prioritizing those with minimal environmental impact.

From reclaimed wood to recycled glass backsplashes, we seek out eco-friendly options that are as beautiful as they are sustainable. Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond the environment to the communities we serve, ensuring that your home reflects both your style and your principles.

Incorporating Fair Trade

For interior designers, incorporating fair trade products into their designs means selecting items such as furniture, textiles, decorative accessories, and artwork that have been ethically produced.

This may involve sourcing from companies and artisans who adhere to fair trade standards and certifications, such as Fair Trade Certified, which verifies that the product was made under fair labor conditions and meets environmental criteria.

Focusing on Quality

Knowing where and when to invest in a quality, well-made piece of furniture is what we pride ourselves on providing to our clients. Working with an heirloom piece of furniture while supporting the design with a custom-made piece of furniture can result in a beautiful, timeless room.

Buying second-hand or vintage furniture is also a sustainable practice because no new materials are being used. You prevent these pieces from becoming waste by giving them another life.

Our Commitment to Your Home, Health, and Environment

When purchasing sustainable furniture, we consider the environmental impact of sourcing materials, supply chain emissions, the length of a product's life cycle, and potential VOCs in your home. Buying sustainable furniture may require more self education than driving to your closest furniture store. Making an investment that benefits your home, your health, and the environment is worth it.

Traditional interior design practices often contribute to excessive waste. However, by choosing materials with minimal waste production and selecting products that can be repurposed or recycled, we're working towards a more sustainable future where every resource is valued and utilized efficiently.

Sustainable materials aren't just good for the planet – they're also beneficial for your health. Many conventional materials contain harmful chemicals and toxins, but by prioritizing natural, non-toxic alternatives, we're creating healthier living spaces for you and your loved ones.

If you're ready to enhance your home and care about the impact on our planet in the process, reach out! We can't wait to hear about your project!

Warmly,
Trisha
