There is often a misconception about what a Designer can actually do for you. You may think, "How fun! You get to select pretty fabrics, paint, and furniture all day!" And while that may be the case for some, what we do is dive deep into observing and listening to how you live and interact in and outside your home.

When planning your home renovation, here are 3 tips for creating a space that supports your unique lifestyle.

Tip #1: Make Space for Your Hobbies and Interests

As we have come out of the pandemic, we recognize that the home has evolved and become multi-functional. It's not necessarily a place to rest your head and cook a meal, but rather a home that supports the lifestyle and hobbies of the people and multi-generations who live inside.

It's important to carve out a space in a room and design a multi-functional area to serve as a place to support your hobbies and create memories with your children or grandchildren.

Tip #2: Create Designated Storage for All Your Stuff

We all have stuff, but why not give it a dedicated place while still functioning as a beautiful space? For instance, in this home office, we designed enough storage for paperwork while creating a space to display items collected over the years.

The home office also serves as a guest bedroom, so we created a bookcase that drops down into a bed. On either side of the bed, we incorporated outlets for charging phones and pin lights for reading.

Tip #3: Select Materials That Work Hard for You

When creating that niche or room to support your hobbies, interests, and lifestyle, consider the lighting and materials surrounding you and if it's a good fit.

Focus on good lighting, whether from natural light or added in. Choose non-absorbent flooring materials for easy clean up and upholstery items with performance fabrics for spills.
