Project Reveal: Our Recent One-of-a-Kind Kitchen Renovation in Riverwoods
Nothing gets us more excited than when clients ask us to think outside the box to create their dream kitchen. Our clients’ 80's style kitchen was just not functioning for their cooking and entertaining lifestyle, but they did not want the typical white and gray color scheme. We needed to incorporate their love for nature.
Our Professional, Perfected Process
The original kitchen layout did not provide enough counter space, storage or a functional seating area. We listened carefully to our clients to learn how they lived day to day, as well as how they entertained. As an avid cook, our client wanted to explore all the options available and incorporate elements seamlessly into the design.
Since they entertain quite frequently, we designed a layout that would encourage guests to be in the kitchen but out of the cook’s way! We all know that it doesn't matter how nice or comfortable the other rooms in the house are – guests will always congregate in the kitchen.
We also gave careful thought to the surrounding materials. While uncommon, we selected a highly functional natural cork floor for the kitchen. This material is soft on the feet and very forgiving of spills, etc. Next, we selected a durable countertop material so our clients would never have to worry about cracks from a hot pot set on the surface.
Finally, we selected appliances and sinks. Both sinks are workstation sinks, adding even more function. The Thermador cooktop is induction – switching from gas was a tough decision, but so worth it!
A Kitchen Full of Personalized Details
Without moving any walls and inspired by nature, this biophilic-designed kitchen left no detail behind. We created a space for our clients’ many plants to receive much needed sun light, and brought the outside in with custom made leaf motif cabinet doors for the wet bar area.
The artwork you see in the picture is actually a TV! This gives them a place to watch the morning news and also serves as an art piece when entertaining.

We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome of this kitchen. Not only is it unique, but it pays homage to our natural environment. Our clients now have all the things and will be entertaining for many days ahead! They’ve told me that their visitors have been awe inspired upon seeing the new design.
