Designing a Home That’s Good for You AND the Planet

Sustainable design is more than just a trend. We believe that the choices we make in our homes should not only reflect beauty and functionality but also respect future generations. By incorporating sustainable practices, we create spaces that are both timeless and responsible.

Tip #1: Invest in High-Quality Pieces

High-quality furniture typically comes with a higher investment cost. But committing to that investment early on reduces long-term waste in our every-growing landfills. Fast Fashion pieces, such as those you might find at an online retailer, are exactly as described. They give you a great look fast, but never lasts.

Tip #2: Reupholster Instead of Repurchase

Buying a high-quality ,timeless style sofa can last you over 20 years. And when that gray fabric goes out of style, you can simply reupholster it for a fresh look. In contrast, a fast fashion sofa may last less than half the lifespan of a quality sofa, meaning your investment quite literally ends up in the garbage.

Tip #3: Source from Ethical & Sustainable Companies

When sourcing furniture on your own, you may see certifications like GreenGaurd, Fair Trade, Cradle to Cradle, and FSC. These are reputable certifications that help ensure the materials and manufacturing processes meet high environmental and ethical standards. At Trisha Davis Designs, we are part of an organization called ID Greenlist, which provides us with a trusted resource for sourcing sustainable products for our clients.
